If you have a lot of kids or just a lot of bikes it can be difficult to keep your stable of cycles and scooters from piling up. If security isn't an issue you could always build a simple PVC bike rack to put in your garage or backyard.
Crafting weblog Hostess With the Motzes decided to use a freestanding solution as their children were too small to attach and remove bikes from hanging wall racks. The design they use can hold up to ten bicycles, scooters, or other vehicles with similarly-sized wheels. They used 50 feet of PVC piping, 20 T-connectors, 14 90-degree elbow connectors, PVC pipe cement, and a saw to cut the PVC. All in all around forty dollars in material costs.
Keep in mind that the cement is only necessary once you've found your ideal setup and don't plan to take it apart again. I also wanted to again point out that there is no way to secure a bike to this stand that would be much of a theft-deterrent so please only do this in areas where you're not concerned with your bicycle being stolen.
